Joseph: Dreams and Destiny

What Godly Leadership Costs

Genesis 44:1-34
The big idea

Godly leadership isn’t measured by how many people you influence, but by what you’re willing to bear for the people you influence.

Talk about it

To start
What’s the best “I’ll do better next time” promise you’ve ever made, and how did it actually go?
1
Read Genesis 44:1-17. Joseph hides his cup in Benjamin’s sack, then lets the brothers go home free if they leave Benjamin. Why do you think he sets it up this way, and what would you have been tempted to do in their place?
2
Read Genesis 44:18-34. Judah offers to be a slave so Benjamin can go home. What has changed in Judah since Genesis 37:26-27, and which part of that change feels hardest to believe is possible for you?
3
Sunday gave men four pillars (reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, invest eternally) and women four places to lead (yourself, your circle of influence, supporting your husband, your kids). Which is your strongest, which is your weakest, and what makes the weakest hard for you?
4
Think of a relationship carrying hurt, whether you were wounded or you caused the wound. Which side are you on right now, what are you most afraid of, and what honest next step could you take without pretending trust is already restored?
5
Judah stepped up when nobody else would, at great cost to himself. Where are you quietly avoiding something that is yours to carry, and what is one specific thing this group could do this week to help you carry it?

Give Your Words Weight

Pick one promise someone close to you is still waiting on. Tell them today what you’ll do and by when, then do it before we meet again. Text it to one person in your group.
