The path to eldership

Six steps, prayerfully walked.

1. 1

   Establish an observable track record

   A known history of serving, leading, and giving at Emmaus, with visible fruit in ministry, marriage, and family life.

2. 2

   Nomination

   The team may approach men it believes should prayerfully consider the calling — or a member who senses an internal call makes it known to the team.

3. 3

   Applicant

   A supervising elder walks with the applicant through questions, information, and a formal interview (with his wife).

4. 4

   Candidate

   With qualifications confirmed, he enters mentorship and study, joins team meetings as a non-voting advisor, and serves at least a year — so the team can gauge fit and chemistry.

5. 5

   Approval

   Brought before the congregation, who are invited to speak into his life and character across a two-week window before he advances.

6. 6

   Installation

   Following the satisfactory completion of all requirements, new elders are installed publicly at a worship gathering.
